General Information:

  • C. freundii and  C. koseri are the major species

Pathogenesis and Infectious Disease:

  • nosocomial infections (urinary tract and wound infections, septicemia)
  • patients usually have underlying disease such as hepatic, biliary, or pancreatic disease

Test Results:

  • Lactose fermentation : positive (pink colonies) – late fermenters
  • HE/XLD : colorless or red/yellow/colorless colonies
  • IMViC :   -/+/-/+
  • TSI : K/A
  • H2S : positive
  • Motility : positive
  • Lysine : negative
  • ONPG : positive
